Course Description
Coaching is both a role and a process of helping others. Anyone seeking to inspire or motivate learning and change in others can increase their effectiveness by coaching with an approach based on published scientific studies, not merely values or rhetoric.
The workshop is based on 6 decades of longitudinal and psycho-physiological research into sustained behavioral change, the development of emotional intelligence competencies, and helping others find their dreams, purpose, and meaning. Using his Intentional Change Theory, Professor Richard Boyatzis will lead the audience through examples of how coaching with compassion (i.e., coaching a person to the Positive Emotional Attractor (PEA), their vision and values) is key to development and more resonant relationships. He will describe his fMRI studies on coaching to the (PEA versus the Negative Emotional Attractor (NEA), as well as recent doctor-patient studies showing that arousal of the PEA increased treatment adherence for Type II Diabetics, and more effective inspiration by teachers, professors, and leaders. He will explain why it is central to neuro-endocrine renewal in the human body (which is the only antidote to the ravages of chronic stress).
The approach and underlying research will debunk many popular myths and current practices that are purported to be better coaching, but are not. He will explain how more effective coaches are literally in tune with clients. Their own levels of emotional intelligence and personal inspiration allow them to create and nurture these resonant relationships, using their EI on the path through mindfulness, hope, compassion, and playfulness.
The exercises and practice will focus on helping bother the coach and their clients develop the lives they would love to be leading.
