Course Assistant Roles:

  • Hybrid Classroom Q&A Course Assistant: This in-person and in-classroom role is integral to the operation of the hybrid classroom. Volunteers in this role work closely with the faculty member, the in-room producer/technician, and the online Zoom facilitator to support online learners in asking questions directly of the faculty member. This role is responsible for prioritizing online questions and requires a comfort level or willingness to learn how to use Google Documents. Familiarity with the course topic and content is a plus but not a requirement. Training will be provided in advance of arrival.

  • Classroom Course Assistant: This role is dedicated to in-person classroom management/clean-up and participant and faculty support. The classroom course assistant distributes microphones during Q&A times and supports CCI staff in the bookstore and office during break times. If assigned to a hybrid classroom, this role will be oriented to the hybrid setup to better understand how to support the needs of the faculty, participants, and technicians in the room.

  • Operations Course Assistant: This course assistant's primary role is to support CCI staff on-site with operational needs, including, but not limited to, bookstore support, participant check-in, participant and faculty questions during the coffee break, general organization, and cleaning needs. Operations Course assistants will not be assigned to a specific classroom, but they will have the opportunity to join a course of their choosing virtually during their designated week/times (from the office). If space and time permit, this role may also help within the classroom at various points throughout the week.

All Course Assistant placements are contingent upon an interview with CCI staff. Please note that placement is not guaranteed due to the limited number of positions and number of applications received, and housing and travel accommodations are the responsibility of the course assistant. Volunteer applicants are also welcome to apply for an individual scholarship
