Volunteer Roles & Commitments

Volunteer Time Commitment:

 

Volunteer Roles: 

1. Hybrid Classroom Q&A Assistant: 

  • Purpose: Support faculty in fielding questions from live-online learners in real-time. Participants will be able to ask faculty questions directly with your support. This is an essential and meaningful in-person classroom support role!

  • Key Responsibilities:

    • Work closely with the faculty, in-room producer/technician, and Zoom facilitator

    • Prioritize and manage questions from online participants

    • Use Google Docs to track questions and communicate with in-person and online CCI staff members

  • Skills & Experience:

    • Comfort with or willingness to learn Google Docs

    • Familiarity with course content is a plus, but not required

  • Training: Volunteers are invited to attend a virtual informational orientation led by CCI staff prior to their course date. This session offers an opportunity to connect with other volunteers and ask questions before your arrival on-site. Additional training will be provided on the morning the course starts, and individual training/practice sessions with Google Docs can be provided as needed in advance of the course. 

  • Please note: Volunteers in this role will be given priority placement. This position is limited to classroom hours and does not include any operational or support duties outside of class.

2. Classroom Course Assistant: 

  • Purpose: Support in-person classroom management, clean-up, and faculty/participant needs

  • Key Responsibilities:

    • Distribute microphones during Q&A sessions

    • Assist CCI staff in the bookstore and office during breaks and before and after class hours

    • Support classroom operations and participant needs

  • TrainingVolunteers are invited to attend a virtual informational orientation led by CCI staff prior to their course date. This session offers an opportunity to connect with other volunteers and ask questions before your arrival on-site. Additional training and orientation will be provided on the morning of the course, starting at 7:00 a.m. 

3. Operations Assistant: 

  • Purpose: Support Cape Cod Institute staff on-site with general operational and participant-facing needs, including registration, bookstore support, and occasional community-oriented events.

  • Key Responsibilities:

    • Bookstore support

    • Participant check-in and registration assistance

    • Respond to participant and faculty questions during coffee breaks

    • General organization and cleaning tasks

  • Classroom Involvement:

    • Not assigned to a specific classroom

    • Opportunity to join a course virtually during assigned week/times (from the office) or from home during another week of your choosing

    • May assist in classrooms at various points if space and time permit

  • Training: Volunteers are invited to attend a virtual informational orientation led by CCI staff prior to their course date. This session offers an opportunity to connect with other volunteers and ask questions before your arrival on-site. Additional training and orientation will be provided on the morning of the course, starting at 7:00 a.m. 

4. CCI Ambassador: Unable to volunteer for a full course? Join us as a community ambassador. Support includes time-limited weekly or ad hoc on-site assistance, including with the bookstore or Monday or Thursday Participant Registration, or support for off-site or community-oriented events as needed (e.g., Monday afternoon Welcome Receptions and special events). Responsibilities may include welcoming participants and faculty, assisting with event setup, and helping build connections. 5 Half-Day Schedule (Monday- Friday)

Class duration: 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (or 1:30 p.m. for 20-hour course) with a 30-minute refreshment break

Course Assisting Hours:

Monday7:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Tuesday-Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

*Please note that the week of June 29th, 15-hour courses will run Monday to Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. in observance of the holiday.

All Volunteer placements are contingent upon an interview with Cape Cod Institute staff.

Please note that placement is not guaranteed due to the limited number of positions and number of applications received, and housing and travel accommodations are the responsibility of the volunteer.

Volunteer applicants are also welcome to apply for an individual scholarship (coming soon). 

Applicants can expect to hear back from CCI staff regarding their application status by April 6, 2026.

All roles are located on-site in Orleans, MA.
