Gloria Burgess — Leading from Within: Conscious Living and Service

Leading from Within: Conscious Living and Service, a 2019 Cape Cod Institute workshop led by Gloria Burgess July 29 - August 2, 2019

Gloria Burgess

Leading from Within: Conscious Living and Service
July 29 - August 2, 2019

During this time of deep disruption and global transition, many of us in the helping professions are faced with an increasingly complex landscape of suffering and demanding levels of care. As dedicated servants to our clients, organizations, and families, it is not uncommon for us to excel at prioritizing everyone and everything on our “to do lists.” In doing so, we often lose sight of our own self and fail to nurture the core values that initially distinguished us as leaders and critical resources in our communities. In this interactive workshop, Dr. Gloria Burgess, expert in leadership formation and development, master facilitator, and acclaimed poet and author, invites you to explore the values, actions, choices, and contributions that make you a leader. And she guides you on how to bring it back to your clients and workplace.

This highly experiential workshop will supply you with a comprehensive set of principles and strategies aimed at helping you become a more conscious and intentional steward of your resources in your work and beyond. This workshop is designed for therapists, consultants, coaches, organizational leaders, teachers, doctors, social workers, and other helping professionals who seek to reinvest time in their leadership development, improve impact and sustainability at work, and renew motivation to enter difficult conversations in the workplace with patience, creativity, and empathy.

Drawing upon relevant research from behavioral science, leadership, neuroscience, the arts, and perennial wisdom traditions we will create a rich and powerful learning community. Participants will explore Gloria’s concept of sanctuary, creating deliberate time to reflect on work, realign with what has heart and meaning, and reconnect with inner wisdom and purpose for service. Sessions will include small group exercises, hands-on practice of dialogue, and other integrative modalities.

Gloria Burgess

Gloria Burgess, PhD, has dedicated her life to exploring conscious living and conscious service. Because how we live is how we lead and serve. She infuses the ethos of conscious living and service into all aspects of her work, so that we might become intentional stewards of our individual, collective, and planetary resources.

Gloria is Founder of the Global Institute for Legacy Leadership. A pioneer in leadership formation and development, she conceived and coined the terms legacy consciousness and legacy leadership. For many years, she led retreats and workshops only in corporate, health care, and philanthropic settings to equip frazzled, burned-out leaders. So many people have requested her highly successful programs, they are now open to people in all professions.

Gloria serves on the faculty at the University of Southern California, University of Washington, and IEDC Bled School of Management in Slovenia. As a speaker, consultant, and trusted advisor, she works with prominent organizations around the world. Gloria has authored eight books, including her groundbreaking books Flawless Leadership: Connecting Who You Are With What You Know and Do and Sanctuary: Restoring the Rhythm of Rest and Renewal.
